In one of the most recent Tough Question Series videos, Josiah Alway answered a question that was posed to one of our viewers. That question is “How do you know that Christianity is the One True Religion?” A very interesting question, indeed.
If you have already had the opportunity to watch the video, of course you know the answer by now. I will not spoil it for anyone that has not watched the video yet, but it has to do with a Person. It may be very obvious who we are talking about here, but watch the video, there’s way more to it.
Where Are We Going?
In May’s newsletter, we mentioned, “How can we know where we are going if we don’t know where we come from?” And this statement is very true. I chuckle remembering a joke, which I will use to illustrate my point. It is about an old man with Alzheimer’s disease who happens to find himself in the middle of the stairway in his house. While admiring the splendid wood-crafting of this stairway, gazing at it with wondering eyes; he suddenly yells to his wife crisp and clear, “My Dear! Do you know if I was going up or going down?” And although this funny story continues, I will stop here to make a point. This man was in the middle of a journey. Was it a journey upstairs or a journey downstairs? He would surely have known the answer if he could just remember where he came from, information hindered due to his hypothetical medical condition.
Today, everyone is on a journey. Just as Abraham was called out of Ur of the Chaldeans to the Promised Land, we all are called to an eternal inheritance: God Himself. But many don’t start the journey, and others who start are led astray partway. They ask themselves, “Am I going up, or am I going down?” Their lives are like a disoriented pilot in the midst of a dense cloud.
When a pilot is in such a situation, he depends completely on the aircraft’s instruments to be correctly oriented, to know if he is upright or tilted, since the brain cannot discern the body’s position without visual and spatial (feet on the ground) input.
Many lives are upside-down, not using the instrument God has given us in His Creation, the Bible, His Spirit, godly counsel, and more. These lives are submerged in all sorts of sins, such as immorality, greed, lies, and so on. Depression, anxiety, and purposelessness flourish. Why? People just don’t know where they are heading because many have forgotten or denied where they come from: God.
We know from where we come. We read in Psalm 100:3, “Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who made us, and not we ourselves.” We are His creation; it is God that filled us with life and made us special -- far apart and very different from any other creature He made because He created us in His own image with the ability to commune with Him.
The Bible warns us about those that will deny the existence of the Almighty. 2 Peter 3:3 says, “knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.” And verse 5 continues, “For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of the water and through water by the word of God.” We also read in Psalm 14:1, “The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God.’ They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good.”
Why do people deny the existence of God? Peter specifies that those that deliberately overlook the fact of Creation are following their own sinful desires. David adds that they are corrupt and do abominable deeds. The existence of God requires a solid standard for morality, and thus, the existence of God demands the unavoidable observance of this morality. God is a huge hindrance and obstacle for those who want to live an immoral, sinful life.
Those who deny the existence of God find solace in the tree of knowledge. Science has slowly and steadily been contaminated by secular ideas to the point that today many scientists say that God and science are mutually exclusive: you either believe in God or believe in science which is a false dilemma. True science will always confirm and be in accordance with God.
Upon questioning our origins and where we come from, those who deny God needed a non-theistic explanation to answer that question. Consequently, Charles Darwin introduced evolution and the concept of “Natural Selection” in the mid-1800s to explain our existence from the biological point of view, and in the 1920s the Big Bang Model was introduced to explain it from the cosmological point of view.
The falsely-called "science" of evolution, spoken in simple language, states that organisms evolve (change) over time in order to adjust to their environment and survive. It also states that all life came from one common ancestor, which evolved from non-living substances. The explanation for this non-living substance is provided by the Big Bang which states that all things in the universe originated from an explosion of subatomic particles which later became atoms and started reacting to form things. Both “theories” deny God and the Genesis account.
Today, evolution is the only doctrine being taught in most public schools throughout the world. And no, I didn’t say "theory," I said "doctrine" because, in my opinion, evolution is the gospel of the religion called Atheism.
Is Atheism a Religion?
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, atheism is defined as “a lack of disbelief or a strong disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods.” It also defines it as “a philosophical or religious position characterized by disbelief in the existence of a god or any gods.” Atheist resources maintain that atheism is not a religion and clarify that atheism is not an affirmative belief; it is not a disbelief but rather a lack of belief in gods.
A religion is defined as “a set of beliefs, a cultural system and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence,” or as “a system of faith and worship.”
By definition, atheism may very well fulfill the requirements to be considered a religion. They have a set of beliefs, a world view, and faith in something that cannot be proven which no one saw. They readily accept the First Amendment protection of the free exercise of religion and are protected by US law under a religious freedom bill signed by Barack Obama in 2016 (Frank Wolf International Religious Freedom Act of 2016).
Considering all the above and that other non-theistic religions like Buddhism and Jainism exist, atheism perfectly fits the description of a religion, but they have used science manipulating it to justify their beliefs (or “lack” thereof) to subtly spread that disbelief while condemning and insulting anyone who dares say that God and science coincide.
Indoctrinating the New Generation
During one of our campaigns in the United States, something happened that has been ingrained in my memory. I had the opportunity to speak to a group of children, I would say their ages ranged from four to nine years old. We prepared a puppet show for them and afterward, I asked how many of them had heard about creation. None of them raised their hand. None! Perhaps they were shy, perhaps some didn’t understand the question. Nevertheless, all of them heard about creation that day, how God made each and every one of them wonderfully, and how He created the mountains, the seas, the plants, the animals, and all that exists. That day they heard they have a Father in Heaven and that they have a purpose, a goal, and an eternal inheritance if they are willing to pursue it.
Later that day I overheard a conversation one of our volunteer team members was having with a young man. This teenager believed we evolved from monkeys and that we are superior animals.
Animals...oh, but not just any kind of animals -- superior animals. Could we say moral standards are at the animal level as well? Indeed! Perhaps one might correct me and say, “at the superior animal level, please.”
The new generation is being taught, or better said indoctrinated, that life just popped into existence, that there is no God and that only the fittest survive -- the doctrine atheism teaches. A few days ago, a colleague of mine commented that right now we are living in a state of natural selection with the current pandemic and that only the fittest will survive. Well, this doctrine definitely is popular. The issue is not sincere scientific attempts to understand our surroundings. True science reveals God; true science glorifies God. The issue is that “science” is now deceitfully being used as a direct attack on religion, which in reality is an attack on God. Atheists wearing the “scientist lab coat” would argue that their point of view is merely scientific, but in many cases, they are the ones that attack religion first when an intelligent design, irreducible complexity, or unavoidable causality are suggested or merely implied. Full of anger with hate in their eyes, they throw remarks full of scorn and derision.
Evolution, Why Is It a Theory?
As a physician, I spent many years, if not decades, being trained in science. I had to read and learn about biology, organic chemistry, biochemistry, embryology, anatomy, physiology, psychology, pathology, genetics, and I could keep adding to the list. I was trained to use the scientific method and to conduct clinical studies. I remember that a hypothesis is an educated guess, an idea or explanation you come up with based on observation, which will later be tested or experimented. A theory is the next step. A theory is an explanation you have repeatedly tested and verified using the scientific method. And after repeated verification, a theory acquires the status of “law.”
Now, this is science taught in medical school. I’m not sure if biology has different definitions or if a group of individuals just want to be deceitful for ulterior motives because I always found a discrepancy in calling evolution a “theory.” Scientifically, evolution has yet to be repeatedly verified. When was the last time you saw a dog developing wings to finally catch that ball mid-air? Similarly, when was the last time you saw a species transforming into a completely different species? Oh, but atheism needs a theory, not just a mere hypothesis.
But, what do I know about biology? After all, I’m just a physician. Marine biologist Karina Altman said, “Evolution violates the law of biogenesis, which essentially says that life cannot arise from non-life. It also violates the law of cause and effect, which says that nothing occurs by chance. It violates the First Law of Thermodynamics which states that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, and it also violates the Second Law of Thermodynamics which states that all things tend towards a more disorderly state (law of entropy).”
I asked my dear friend Siri to fetch the definition of “doctrine” for me (please pardon the informality of this paragraph). “She” said it’s a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group. I see this definition as more fitting for evolution than the word “theory” and will discuss more details of evolution in future articles.
Many might disagree with me, and I respect that; this article expresses my opinion and what I have seen while being trained in the science of medicine. This article’s aim is not to convince evolutionists or atheists that evolution is lacking as a theory. They, just as Pharaoh's magicians when they were before Moses and Aaron, will use their “secret arts” every time coming up with very imaginative explanations to still cling to their beliefs (or lack thereof), thus, their hearts will remain hardened. Only the very God they deny can do the miracle of opening their eyes. This article‘s goal is to raise Christian awareness, especially for those parents of children attending public schools, and to expose the spiritual warfare that is happening in science’s turf which is being used to silently spread the religion of atheism.
Why Is This Important?
The issue with Creation and Evolution is not a scientific one, but rather it is a spiritual one. This is why it is vitally important that all of us know where we come from -- that we were created and that the God of heaven, the great I AM, exists! The new generation must be taught the truth and leave no room for doubt. Many Christians, not all but many, have long neglected to instruct their children on basic science. Consequently, the heathen have subtly taken care of it presenting atheism through evolution.
Is science important to Christians? Daniel was “cunning in knowledge and understanding science.” Solomon acquired all his God-given wisdom through observing God’s creation (he applied what we call today the scientific method). King David wrote: “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth, who have displayed your splendor above the heavens! When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; what is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him?” David came to know more of the Lord as he considered the creation surrounding him. Many renowned scientists believed in God such as Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, Lord Kelvin, Robert Boyle, Louis Pasteur, and many others. True science confirms the Bible; true science glorifies God.
If the coming generations are convinced that we made ourselves and that there is no God, how will they be led to meet their Creator and find eternal life in redemption through Jesus Christ? If they do not believe in the very first book and the very first chapter and the very first verse of the Bible, how will they believe the rest of it? How can we evangelize to someone that thinks Genesis is a hoax? “After all, the gospel is part of the same book,” they may think.
Our new generations have to know where we come from in order to know where we must be heading, our children must know they are created by a loving and just God and that we did not make ourselves. They must learn about the wonders of God through His creation, how He reveals Himself to us through it, just as David wrote. They must hear and learn that "in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." This is the seed; from there, everything else unfolds. Let us not allow the enemy of our souls to take that seed away!
